International Monthly Dinner Series
Events » Dinner Series
One of CENSA's staple activities is the monthly dinner series program. This effort began in
November of 2000 in Washington DC and has now spread to New York City, London, and Budapest. In
each of these cities CENSA members gather once a month to discuss an issue of pressing national
security significance over dinner. These events are off the record meetings attended by an
average of twenty CENSA members and guests, moderated by a CENSA member, and initiated with
short presentations by subject matter experts.
At two hours in duration, each dinner series meeting gives our members and their guests a
"seat at the table" to discuss important issues with no fear of agency equities coloring
arguments or impact of judgment from co-workers on provocative opinions expressed.
The dinner series is designed to emulate the same environment experienced at a Deputies or
Principles Committee meeting in the situation room at the White House where discussion, well
fashioned arguments, and consensus-building are the engines of policy-making. By creating the
same environment for those that attend we are attempting to prepare our membership for the days
when they will be taking part in such discussions with a great deal more at stake.
