These members share two characteristics: growing expertise in their fields with the potential for contributions of the highest caliber, and an interest in positively influencing US policy on emerging national security challenges and opportunities.

 

Peter Ahern

Peter Ahern is Coordination Officer, Program Objective Memorandum Development Office, Headquarters Marine Corps. His current projects analyze the strategic impact of fiscal constraints and the impact of new technologies and force structures on emerging and future Marine Corps doctrine and amphibious capabilities. A student of Congressional & Presidential politics, Major Ahern received the B.A. in Business from St. Ambrose University and has a number of degrees from Professional Military Educational institutions.


 

David Aidekman

David Aidekman is Special Assistant to the Counselor to the Secretary of State.  In that capacity he monitors and advises on a wide range of national security and homeland security issues including international counterterrorism, border and travel security, and regional security issues in South Asia and Europe.  Prior to this position, Mr. Aidekman served as Director for Policy and Plans at the White House Office of Homeland Security and Homeland Security Council.  He was responsible for strategic planning for government-wide homeland security programs.  He was part of Tom Ridge's small team that authored the first-ever National Strategy for Homeland Security and constructed the President's original proposal for the Department of Homeland Security.  Aidekman has also served in the National Security Division of the White House Office of Management and Budget where he worked on the national defense budget, primarily on defense modernization.  He was a Founding Member and Member of the first Board of Directors of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs, an international think-tank covering emerging national security issues.  He has guest lectured at Harvard's Kennedy School on National Security Organization and Management and on homeland security at the US Military Academy at West Point.  His work has appeared in a number of publications.  Mr. Aidekman earned a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.


 

Javed Ali

Javed Ali has held positions in the private sector where he participated in providing national security-related analytic and exercise support to a number of Federal, state, and local government agencies. Prior to this, Mr. Ali worked at a small but influential Washington, DC-area think tank that focused extensively on arms control, terrorism, and weapons of mass destruction proliferation matters. He has provided national security analysis to a variety of media organizations, and from October 2001 to January 2002 he served as an analyst to CNN on bioterrorism issues.


  Jonathan Allen

Jon Allen is a Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton providing mission assurance, critical infrastructure, and risk management expertise to the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. Prior to joining Booz Allen, he served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army with assignments in Korea, Washington DC with The Old Guard and as a White House Social Aide, and in the 1st Cavalry Division as a Company Commander. He is a board member of the Washington DC Contingency Planning Exchange (CPE) and is a certified Associate Business Continuity Professional from the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII). He has a BA in Political Science at Norwich University and an MA in Security Studies from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

 

James H. Anderson

James H. Anderson is a widely published expert in national security affairs. He is the author of America at Risk: The Citizen's Guide to Missile Defense, as well as numerous articles in major newspapers and scholarly journals. He has worked as a Associate Professor of International Relations at Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia, and a Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. He has extensive media experience, having addressed national security topics on dozens of television and radio programs, including NBC Nightly News. He earned his Ph.D. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He also served as an intelligence officer in the Marine Corps. James is currently a Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.


 

Ben Atkins

Ben Atkins is an Associate in the Boston office of McKinsey & Company, where he has focused on serving finance and insurance firms. Prior to joining McKinsey, Ben served as a nuclear engineer aboard submarines in the United States Navy. Aboard the USS Toledo, he developed a particular expertise in Tomahawk missile mission planning. Ben holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He graduated first in his class of 1992, and then completed an Honors degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University. In the community he works with an innovative educational program, Shackleton Schools, and he serves as a computer instructor for Boston's Veteran Technical Training Institute. Ben lives with his wife and son in Boston.
