  Mike Gabel

Mike Gabel is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army currently working in the NATO Standardization Agency. He has served as the 41st Field Artillery Brigade Operations Officer and Executive Officer, responsible for a Brigade Task Force during 11 months of combat in Iraq. Mike was also the Fire Support Officer for the 11th Aviation Regiment during the invasion of Iraq. Prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Lieutenant Colonel Gabel attended the U.S Army Command and General Staff College. Mike’s service includes command of an artillery battery, deployment to Haiti for Operation Uphold Democracy, duty as a Joint Staff intern on the Crisis Action Team for Kosovo, duty as an Army Staff intern working Army readiness issues with Congress and Aide de Camp to the Commander of the United States Army Security Assistance Command. Mike is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and Catholic University and recently worked as a founding member to establish the West Point Society of Brussels.


John Garofano

Dr. Garofano is a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, where he is completing a book on civil-military relations and U.S. decisions for and against the use of force. He has taught at the Army War College, USC, and the Five Colleges. Dr. Garofano has published on civil-military relations and decisionmaking, Asian security, peacekeeping, and professional military education. He received the Ph.D. in Government from Cornell, an M.A. from SAIS, and a B.A. in History from Bates College.


Mike George

Mike George is a US Army major teaching security studies and international relations at the US Military Academy. He holds a BS in international relations from West Point, an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, and is a doctoral candidate in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He commanded an infantry company in Germany and Bosnia.


  Tressa Gipe

Tressa Gipe is currently a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) and Special Assistant in the Office of the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Office of the Secretary of Defense.  As a PMF, she also served at the State Department in the Political-Military Bureau and the Office of the Under Secretary for Political Affairs.  Prior to government service, she was a Research Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where she worked on several national security research projects, including the Commission on Science and Security.  Ms. Gipe holds an MSc from Oxford University (St. Antony's College); an MA from Washington University in St. Louis; and a BA from the University of Oregon (summa cum laude), where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  She and her husband, Ivailo, live in Washington D.C.
 

Sebestyén Gorka

Sebestyen Gorka is Executive Director of the Institute for Transitional Democracy and International Security. He has published in excess of 60 books chapters, monographs and articles internationally on the topics of political violence, military reform, the CIS, intelligence and Centra Europe. He has held positions at the RAND Corporation, Washington and was International Research Fellow at the NATO Defence College in Rome. He remains a fellow of the Terrorism Research Center and regularly lectures on the subject of terrorism at the NATO School (SHAPE) in Oberammegau and the FBI's International Law Enforcement Academy, Budapest. He is a founding member of CENSA. Sebestyén Gorka has been a lead contributor to various of the JANES publications for several years. He has appeared on the public and commercial news channels of Austria, Hungary, France, Japan, the US and UK, including the BBC and ABC.


 

Jim Gorman

Jim Gorman worked within the special projects section of the intelligence community for ten years, with extensive experience working with private contractors and government agencies in this capacity. Mr. Gorman is a former submarine sailor that worked in ocean engineering for nearly ten years. He is a member of the Naval Submarine League, the Naval Intelligence Professional, and the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Gorman currently works as a high school History teacher in Chicago and is an adjunct professor with National-Louis University. Received a BS from California State University and a M.Ed from University of Illinois at Chicago.


William Gouveia

William Gouveia is a Senior Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, providing strategic planning and collection management expertise to the U.S. Intelligence Community. Billy was previously an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, serving in armor, infantry, and Special Forces units. He has a BA in Economics, Political Science, and History at Columbia University and an MA in Security Studies from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

 

 

David Grannis

David Grannis is a Senior Policy Advisor to Congresswoman Jane Harman on terrorism, intelligence, and defense issues. He formerly worked at the Harvard University Executive Session on Domestic Preparedness and the National Research Council's Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology. He holds a Masters of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and a BA in chemistry from Cornell University.
